Writing and reading go together. Scribbling and writing help children learn that written words stand for spoken language.
- Give your child lots of opportunities to draw and color. Writing begins with scribbling.
- Let children “sign” their names to drawings. As they grow older, children can begin to write the letters in their names.
- Talk to your children about what they draw, and write down what they say. These “stories” help make a connection between spoken and printed language.
